Peruvian Interior Minister Victor Torres held a meeting with United States Embassy's International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Bureau Director Glenn Tosten aimed at articulating actions, strengthening strategies to combat illicit drug trafficking, and coordinating projects in favor of citizen security.

During the meeting held at the Lima-based ministerial office, the Interior sector's head and the U.S. official discussed a possible donation of helicopters to the Peruvian State, useful for troop transport, cargo, and medical evacuation missions.

In this regard, Minister Torres and Director Tosten evaluated the training in the coming months of Peruvian pilots for the management of these multi-use and high-power aircraft.

Both dignitaries also talked about several pilot projects in favor of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), especially to execute them in the cities of Ayacucho, Iquitos, Puerto Maldonado, and Cusco.

The U.S. Embassy's International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section (INL) permanently supports the efforts of the Peruvian Government to implement a comprehensive anti-drug strategy that includes eradication of illicit coca crops, drug interdiction, and control of chemical inputs.

Similarly, it supports the fight against organized crime, the investigation and prosecution of financial crimes and money laundering, in addition to the strengthening of justice administration.
