on Wednesday affirmed that a major blow has been dealt against terrorist remnants due to the capture of Cristian Samaniego, who might be an important link and supplier to the Shining Path terrorist organization.
Samaniego is believed to have participated in the killing of 16 people in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM) on May 23, 2021.
The
National Police of Peru (PNP) —through the Anti-terrorism Directorate in an operation coordinated with the Armed Forces— managed to capture this criminal terrorist who was in charge of bringing gear and communication equipment from the city of Lima to the VRAEM, according to police investigations.
"We have dealt an important blow to terrorist remnants thanks to the capture of Cristian Samaniego, who is allegedly an important link and supplier to the subversive organization," Minister Guillen expressed.
"The National Police of Peru and the Armed Forces remain firm in the fight against subversion," he added as reported by the Interior Ministry on Twitter.
The capture of Samaniego took place on November 15 in Lima's La Victoria district. On the occasion, mobile equipment, USB drives, documents, and radio equipment —which he allegedly bought to be delivered to the VRAEM— were seized, according to the police.
Sixteen people were murdered by Shining Path terrorist group members in a town of Vizcatan del Ene province, in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers (VRAEM).
Samaniego was allegedly involved in the criminal act, as reported by General Javier Santos Gallardo, who serves as General Commander of the PNP.
