Health Minister Hernando Cevallos has affirmed that a reshuffle and formation of a new Ministerial Cabinet is within the powers of the
President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, who constantly makes evaluations and the changes that he deems necessary.
The minister was asked about the President's announcement to reshuffle the Council of Ministers at a press conference on Monday after supervising the implementation of ICU beds at Lima-based Children's Hospital.
"It is within the powers of the President of the Republic to permanently assess his Cabinet and make the changes that he may deem necessary," the government official remarked.
"The situation is changing, as well as the necessities, and it is important that necessary decisions are made," he added.
In this regard, the high-ranking official explained that it is not about the moment, or whether the time in which it (the decision) is made is good or bad, but it depends on whether the changes that are made are for the good of the country.
"Any change will create a level of uncertainty, but this is a decision made by the President of the Republic, and we hope it will serve to move the country forward," he added.
Cevallos decided not to comment on whether he would take the Prime Minister's position, noting that he will always be available to the Head of State to continue working as head of the Ministry of Health.
"Mirtha Vasquez is a person with a great capacity and a good track record. So, the President must have evaluated different reasons," he stated.
