Peruvian Health Minister Oscar Ugarte on Tuesday reminded citizens that vaccines against COVID-19 —which are being administered worldwide— were approved for emergency use to immunize all people aged 18 or above, as they had not been initially approved for use in adolescents or children.
Along these lines, Ugarte clarified that so far no laboratory has carried out scientific studies on children less than 12 years of age. Therefore, the vaccination process does not include this age group.
"Thus, an emergency decree has been approved that provides S/191 million (about US$48.17 million) for the expansion of human resources for that purpose," he said.
Via Twitter, the Cabinet member indicated that it does allow incorporating children and adolescents with comorbidities into the priorities of the
National Vaccination Plan.

"And when we have to vaccinate children and adolescents, it (the challenge) will be even greater. But the country is in a position to do so; we do not doubt that not only
this administration, which leaves office on July 28, but that the next government will be in a position to achieve the goals and surpass them," he stressed.
