Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa on Thursday was elected Chair of the 52nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) by acclamation.
In this regard, the Peruvian government official thanked OAS Member States for their support.
Moreover, he remarked that this is the third time that Peru assumes this commitment and the first time that the Assembly resumes its in-person format after two years of COVID-19 pandemic.
In his address to other foreign affairs ministers and heads of delegation, Minister Landa said that this OAS General Assembly should call for reflection and immediate action to contain and reverse the deepening of social gaps, as the meeting's theme suggests: "Together against Inequality and Discrimination."
The timetable and working procedures for the Assembly were approved in this first session.
Moreover, participants heard the reports from the General Secretariat, the Permanent Council, and the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI).
The Chair of the General Committee was also elected during this session.
