Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua has urged consular offices to step up efforts and renew their commitment to public service, so as to strongly support all Peruvian communities abroad.
In a virtual meeting, which included the participation of 115 Peruvian consuls, the minister called for action with a true spirit of solidarity and inclusiveness.
"You are the human face of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the closest to Peruvian citizens," said Maurtua, who conveyed the decision of the Government led by President Pedro Castillo to improve the care and protection of Peruvians abroad, especially of the most vulnerable.
The diplomat stated that the institution will continue to contribute to the Government's efforts to ensure the supply of vaccines and the implementation of the National Vaccination Plan for all Peruvians and foreigners residing in Peru.
Additionally, he recognized all officials and collaborators at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who have experienced the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the other hand, Minister Maurtua highlighted the work done by Peruvian missions abroad to ensure the rights and interests of Peruvian communities during the pandemic, noting the repatriation of 44,000 Peruvian nationals during the first months of the global health emergency.
The high-ranking official stressed the need to provide helpline and electronic messaging services that are 100% efficient in order to prioritize remote working at consular offices.
"No call or email should go unanswered," he remarked.
