The region of Apurimac, in southern-central Peru, has built its first public school with Satellite Internet Connection (SAT) at 3,000 meters (9842.5 ft) above sea level, located in Pichirhua district, in the Abancay province, it was reported Sunday.
“This is a small and remote community, which is why it will have satellite internet. With this, students can investigate more fully and to be connected with the government authorities, "said the head of the region, Elijah Segovia.
This campus, whose new infrastructure will be delivered in April, will house more than 250 students. "The model which is being implemented here, then it will be replicated in all isolated or remote areas of Apurimac," said the regional authority.
According Segovia’s statements to Andina news agency, the regional government has placed special emphasis on improving education, being a core sector for the development of this southern Peruvian region.
The project worth 2 million soles (US$ 772,499) and the school is in the community of San Francisco de Lucuchanga, in Pichirhua district.
