Peru's Eva Ayllon pays homage to Mahatma Gandhi

18:52 | Lima, Oct. 4.

Peruvian singer Eva Ayllon paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi —non-violent leader of the Indian independence movement— on the occasion of his 150th birth anniversary celebrations.

In a video released on social media by the Embassy of India in Peru, the national singer can be seen performing Gandhi's favorite devotional song "Vaishnava Jana To."

The video was shot at Huaca Pucllana archaeological site in Lima and was officially launched at the 150th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, which started on October 2 and will run until October 2, 2020.

Vaishnav Jan To is a 15th-century Gujarati prayer song written by poet Narsinh Mehta.

Bolivia's musical group Wara also performed the hymn, as well as several artists from all over the world.
