Peruvian Para athlete Angelica Espinoza (Taekwondo) was crowned winner of the Pan American Championship held in Costa Rica on Tuesday. Thus, she managed to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Espinoza won the K44 category and the -49 kg division in the tournament. This competition granted each category winner a ticket for the mega-event.

The Peruvian defeated Mexican Claudia Romero in the final (29-15). Previously, she beat U.S. Sophie Gimeno (32-6).

Espinoza currently lives one of the most sublime moments of her life. Last year, she claimed a gold medal at Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.

The sportswoman has become the fourth Peruvian national to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. Therefore, she follows the steps of fellow citizens of Rodrigo Santillan (Para swimming), Israel Hilario (Para cycling), and Rosbil Guillen (Para Athletics).

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be held from August 25 to September 6.
