Peruvian athlete Diego Elias has become champion of the 2020 Motor City Open squash tournament held at the Birmingham Athletic Club in Bloomfield Hills Detroit on February 5-9.

The Inca athlete beat Egyptian Mohamed ElSherbini 3-0 (11-4; 11-5; 11-4) in the final.

The victory allowed the Pan American champion to hold the 7th place in the Professional Squash Association's World Ranking. Likewise, this position allowed Elias to become the best player in Latin America.

"I've been here so many times. I'm just really happy, I think I played my best squash this week, and I'm happy with the result," Elias said.

Previously, in the semi-finals, the Peruvian representative defeated Frenchman Benjamin Aubert 3-0 (11-4; 11-6; 11-3).

This ensured his ticket to the final to face Mohamed ElSherbini, who had taken down Hong Kong's Leo Au 3-0 (11-4; 11-8; 11-9).
