National Election Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas has updated the members of the European Union's Election Expert Mission on the political-electoral situation in Peru and the progress made by the institution with regard to the upcoming presidential runoff election.

At a virtual meeting held on Tuesday, the JNE's head thanked the mission for its determined and committed support during the first round, noting that its participation in this new stage of the electoral process will contribute to increasing transparency and reliability.

Salas referred to the political-electoral situation that the country is experiencing, the holding of electoral debates, the announcement of the presidential election results, among other aspects.

According to Manuel Sanchez de Nogues (Spain), head of the mission, the country's current situation and all aspects of the runoff election will be analyzed, and at the end, a detailed report will be issued including recommendations to improve future electoral processes.

Besides Sanchez de Nogues, the meeting included the participation of Cristina Ramos (Portugal) and Javier Gutierrez (Spain), experts of the mission.

Together with other JNE participants, Salas answered a series of questions raised by members of the European mission, regarding the progress of the election. Such information —together with data obtained from other entities— will serve as input to prepare the final report.

On the JNE side, in addition to Salas, the meeting was attended by members of the plenary session Jovian Sanjines and Jorge Rodriguez, as well as Secretary-General Lourdes Vargas and International Cooperation and Relations Office Director Maria Antonieta Delgado.
