Peru's Defense Min meets with U.S Southern Command head

Peruvian Defense Minister Walter Astudillo held a bilateral meeting with United States Southern Command Chief, General Laura Richardson, in Miami, accepting an invitation issued by the U.S. military authority.

The gathering took place at the U.S. Southern Command headquarters last Monday.

The meeting was as an opportunity for both authorities to discuss topics of security, national defense, and cooperation activities in this matter, thus strengthening the friendship ties existing between both nations.

Peru's Joint Command of the Armed Forces Chief, Army General David Ojeda, and other high-ranking military officers of the U.S. Southern Command also participated in the event.

Among the addressed topics, the strengthening of the Peruvian Armed Forces' capabilities and the training programs aimed at military personnel stood out.

The U.S. Southern Command manages the relationship on defense issues between the United States and countries in the region.

It is responsible for providing contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation in its assigned Area of Responsibility which includes: Central America, South America, and the Caribbean (except U.S. commonwealths, territories, and possessions).
