Peruvian Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga on Sunday confirmed that there is an atmosphere of calm at Machu Picchu and that visitors, both national and foreign, can access the sanctuary without any problems, in response to complaints from tour operators over the sale of online tickets to visit the Inca citadel in Cusco region.
According to the government official, this peaceful situation is expected to continue in the following days.
"We have always kept the door open for dialogue with representatives, who have precisely the legitimacy, the representation of both tour operators and the people of Machu Picchu itself," she said.
Moreover, the minister reiterated that the in-person sale of 1,000 tickets will continue to take place in Machu Picchu Town.
The Culture sector's head said that tourists will be received in the best way, because the Machu Picchu people are convinced that art, culture, and tourist activities have to continue and be maintained.
Within this context, she underscored that the
Ministry of Culture (Mincul) has been working hand in hand with local and regional authorities, as well as tour operators and representatives of various sectors at the national level, for several weeks, in order to give visitors a better experience when entering the
world heritage site.
"Mincul has decided to have a single platform in which visitors can find the cultural offering of the country’s museums and archaeological sites in general," she stated.
