A few days before saying goodbye to professional soccer, Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro on Thursday affirmed that he feels fit to play his farewell match scheduled for September 24.
Within this framework, the most successful Peruvian professional athlete in Europe affirmed that he is happy for everything he has achieved in soccer after having played in the German Bundesliga for Werder Bremen and Bayern Munich.
Pizarro held a press conference prior to what will be his official farewell match this Saturday. At the event, he will face former idols from both German cities.
"I think I am in good shape. I am still training and I have been training harder in recent weeks, but what matters the most is that people have fun," said the former striker.
Concerning his career in Germany, the 43-year-old idol commented: "My time at the Bundesliga was very good. I am very happy with what I have achieved."
This farewell match will be held on Saturday, September 24, at 5:30 p.m. (German time) at Wesertadion owned by Werder Bremen —a club that hosted Pizarro in 1999 after being transferred from Peru's Alianza Lima.
As is known, the forward became an idol and a legend for the 'Lizards' thanks to his goals.
"(Werder) Bremen opened Europe's doors to me. I always wanted to come back, because I felt very good here. For me, it was important that the game be played here," the Andean Bomber commented.
"I am very happy, and I want to show people something nice. I hope people have fun and enjoy (the upcoming) soccer (match)," he added.
The invited European players will be: Per Mertesacker, Tim Borowski, Philipp Bargfrede, Felix Wiedwald, Peter Niemeyer, Mikaël Silvestre, Torsten Frings, Marco Bode, Dieter Eilts, Clemens Fritz, Philipp Lahm, Franck Ribéry, and Dante.
Other invited stars will include: Dutch Patrick Kluivert, Argentine-French David Trezeguet, as well as Spaniards Gaizka Mendieta and Juanfran Torres.
It was announced that Andres Mendoza will be one Peruvian present at the farewell match.
The former captain of Peru's red-white team is the Peruvian player with the most titles in Europe. That is why he was already included in the squad of legends of the Americas.
