The Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) on Thursday won the gold award in the marketing category at the Chinese Tourist Welcome (CTW) Awards in Shanghai.

This recognition highlights Promperu's marketing plan aimed at attracting high-spending Chinese travelers, mainly the growing sector of independent tourists accustomed to visiting remote places and who are willing to spend high amounts of money if they are interested in the experience.

In this sense, the institution currently undertakes efforts for a long-term positioning of Peru, especially through a digital video platform, since these potential sightseers use this type of products —on a daily basis— which influence their trip-related decisions.

Likewise, PromPeru has strengthened the traditional marketing by making use of innovative digital tools to create trade associations and assist Chinese travel agents in order to offer Peruvian destinations.

Chinese influencers

On the other hand, PromPeru organized a trip to the Inca country with two Chinese influencers and recorded their stay

Afterwards, this material was used to launch a promotional video and a TV series known as "Uncover Peru" (15 episodes).

It should be noted the Inca nation is the first Spanish-speaking destination that has employed videos made by Chinese experts to attract travelers from the Asian country

Furthermore, these videos —which reached over 3.3 million views— could be watched via social media such as WeChat and Weibo.

Award

The Chinese Tourist Welcome Awards —organized by COTRI China Outbound Tourism Research Institute since 2004— is recognized inside and outside China as the most important quality sign for the international Chinese outbound market, with wide coverage in print and electronic media.

Data

Chinese tourist arrivals in Peru increased 20% in 2018 compared to the previous year, totaling 37,740 visitors.
