Peru's CADE 2019: The more women in leadership positions, the better results

13:40 | Paracas (Ica region), Nov. 28.

The more women holding leadership positions within organizations, the better results will we be able to achieve, Scotiabank Peru CEO Miguel Uccelli affirmed on Thursday.

His remarks were made at the Annual Conference of Executives (CADE-Executives 2019) during the segment "Towards Gender Equality in Companies."

In the case of Scotiabank, he said, participation of women in management positions increased from 15% to 30% over the last four years, and the results achieved were important.

"The correlation is extraordinary. The more women in leadership positions, the better results," he underlined.

Uccelli remarked that "unconscious biases" should be eliminated when hiring or promoting people at companies.

"We have to make sure decisions are meritocratic," he stated.

First steps

The Scotiabank Peru CEO advised companies —more specifically the ones looking to make strides in gender equality— to start by analyzing their own organizations instead of checking how the competition is doing on this matter.

"The most concrete action for those who have not started yet is to ask the Human Resources department to make a presentation on the company's current situation (…)," he suggested.
