Peru's BAP Union arrives in France, on tour around the world

12:23 | Nice (France), Jan. 12.

On its route through the Mediterranean —during its first and historic tour around the world— the Peruvian Navy's BAP Union sailing training ship on Friday arrived at the French Port of Nice —the city where it will remain on a four-day official visit, completing the 13th landfall point on its momentous itinerary.

This impressive ship will carry out a series of protocol and cultural activities in said metropolis. They will contribute to strengthening the long-standing relations of friendship and cooperation between the Navies of France and Peru.

Upon arrival, its Commander, Captain Jose Luis Arce Corzo, held a press conference on board.

During this event, Corzo detailed the visit's objectives, both in the academic field and in the promotion of Marca Peru (Peru Brand) export products.

Similarly, he announced the holding of open-door events at which locals and Peruvian community members residing in said city will have the opportunity to appreciate the characteristics and capabilities of the unit, as well as to learn about gastronomy, tourist destinations, and ancient Peruvian culture.

Among the scheduled activities, the crew will pay tribute to the French citizens who gave their lives during the two World Wars. Thus, crew members will place a wreath in front of the Monument to the Dead for the Homeland, which perpetuates the memory.

The Mediterranean city of Nice is located in the Alpes-Maritimes department, Provence region.

The arrival of the Peruvian unit was framed in a protocol welcome ceremony. It was attended by authorities from the Embassy of Peru in the French Republic, as well as civil and naval authorities of said country, among other guests.
