The Joint Command of the Armed Forces on Tuesday reported the destruction of 30 illegal mining camps, as well as a large quantity of machinery and supplies used for such activity, in the region of Madre de Dios.

The camps were found after articulated efforts undertaken by the Southern Operational Command (COS), the National Police of Peru, and the Environmental Prosecutor's Office during operations conducted in the communities of Tocabe and Barranco Chico, located in Inambari district.

The Joint Command also said that the area known as Kilometer 112, in La Pampa, was inspected during the interdiction operations, and housed a camp with machinery and supplies used for illegal mining.

In both cases, the Public Ministry ordered the destruction of all the material seized.

The day before, the Prosecutor's Office reported the presence of 11 camps with supplies and equipment for illegal mining in the community of Barranco Chico.

The operation was carried out on April 12 at 7 a.m. after the authorities were helicoptered in groups to the area, where they observed that the flora had been damaged by the use of chemical substances for such illicit activity.
