Peru's Ambassador reiterates importance of closing digital gaps

On behalf of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Peru, Ambassador Luis Ugarelli on Thursday took the floor at the Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the SDGs (STI Forum) to reiterate the importance of closing digital gaps and promoting innovation.

The Peruvian diplomat stressed the importance of harnessing the potential of information technologies to achieve sustainable and inclusive development.

Likewise, the envoy highlighted the need to increase support and cooperation areas for developing countries.

In particular, the ambassador mentioned that significant investments in infrastructure and digital technologies should be boosted, in addition to strengthening technology transfer, international assistance and cooperation, capacity building, among others.

At this event, the diplomat reminded participants that a digitalized public sector favors transparency, makes life easier for the population, and simplifies its interaction with the State.

The envoy also stressed that private sector digitalization enhances the population's access to better, as well as greater supply of goods and services.
