Peruvian Ambassador Luis Tsuboyama presented the credential letters that accredit him as Ambassador of the Republic of Peru to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The event was held at the ASEAN headquarters on August 8. The credentials were presented to ASEAN Secretary-General Dato Lim Jock Hoi.

After the ceremony, the ASEAN Secretary-General stressed the importance of Peru for ASEAN, while expressing his commitment to strengthen the relationship in terms of cooperation and integration.

Regarding the ties with the Pacific Alliance, the senior official expressed support for carrying out joint actions in the fields of science and technology, digital economy, and post-pandemic economic recovery.

For his part, Ambassador Tsuboyama congratulated the Secretary-General on ASEAN's 55th anniversary, noting its role in the region and the work of the current administration in a post-pandemic scenario.

Likewise, he highlighted the common interests that Peru and the Pacific Alliance share on ASEAN, looking to undertake joint projects, especially next year, when Peru assumes the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance and Indonesia assumes the Chairmanship of the ASEAN.

ASEAN, which consists of 10 member states in Southeast Asia, is the world's fifth largest economy, on course to become the fourth-largest by 2030.
