Railway operator PeruRail has recently reported that the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu train operations were running normally from dawn until 10 a.m. today.
However, the railway company decided to suspend operations in order to preserve the safety of passengers and tourists who were going to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and coming back.
Access roads to the Ollantaytambo train station —located in the district of the same name— both through Cusco-Anta-Pachar and Cusco-Urubamba routes, were blocked by debris and picketers since early in the morning.
The ride through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, in the province of Calca, is also blocked. Demonstrators have occupied the Pisac Bridge.
Meanwhile, commercial activities are carried out on a regular basis in various districts of Cusco; however, businesses in the downtown area have closed their doors due to possible excesses.
