Peru-Kuwait bilateral relations gain momentum

12:14 | Lima, Nov. 07 (ANDINA).

Bilateral relations between Peru and Kuwait have gained momentum in recent years thanks to the increasing number of high-level visits from both sides.

According to Peruvian Ambassador to Kuwait Heli Pelaez Castro, bilateral ties started to witness a positive momentum in terms of greater cooperation and closer friendship after the government of Peru reopened its embassy in the Arab nation in 2011.

"There have been visits between officials of both countries that have expedited the negotiations and signing of bilateral agreements," the diplomat said at an August ceremony marking the 192nd anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Peru.

"Since I assumed office, my main goal is to achieve a greater presence of Peru in Kuwait," he was quoted as saying by the Kuwait Times newspaper.

Castro, who took over as Peru’s new Ambassador to Kuwait on July 8, 2013, also noted that more and more Kuwaiti citizens are traveling to Peru for tourism and business.

Peru and Kuwait will celebrate the 38th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations on Dec. 1, 2013.
