The Peruvian Government —through the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs— on Sunday expressed its readiness to take in Afghan families in a situation of vulnerability, working with
specialized agencies of the United Nations.
With this measure and continuing with its humanitarian cause, Peru joins the call for an urgent response to address the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, made by the Secretary-General of the United Nations.
"It (Peru) expresses its readiness to work together with specialized agencies of the United Nations and the international community so as to take in Afghan families in a situation of vulnerability," the ministry said in
a statement.
According to the communiqué, given the current circumstances, it is essential to allow free movement of those wishing to leave Afghanistan, under safety conditions, and to facilitate their access to humanitarian aid.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is following with concern the events taking place in Afghanistan. Besides, it urges people wielding power to protect the lives of civilians and seek —through dialogue— a peaceful solution led by Afghans themselves.
Furthermore, it affirms that the Government of Peru rejects all forms of terrorism and calls for unrestricted respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms of the Afghan population and foreigners in said country, mainly women, girls, and minorities.
