Today, December 19, the Vacunafest —the vaccination marathon organized by the
Ministry of Health (Minsa)— continues uninterruptedly at over 30 immunization centers across Lima Metropolitan Area and Callao, with the aim of administering the first, second, and third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the population aged 12 years and older.
The 36-hour-long event kicked off on Saturday, December 18, at 7 a.m., and will come to an end today at 7:00 p.m.
This time the vaccination teams' goal is to encourage as many citizens as possible to go and get vaccinated as we look towards this Christmas season (the event theme).
Thus, people will be able to attend the vaccination centers wearing Christmas outfits or accessories throughout December.
They will also have the opportunity to compete in a contest that requires participants to upload photos or videos to social media using the hashtags #VacunatePorTu2022 (Get vaccinated for your 2022) #VacunaFestNavideño (Christmas Vacunafest) and #LasVacunasNosDanEsperanza (Vaccines give us hope).
Following the announcement of the new COVID-19 variant Omicron, which sparks international concern, and the recent increase in positive coronavirus cases, Minsa authorities reiterated the importance of full vaccination in order to avoid medical complications from the infection, which could require admission to ICU.
In addition, since December 10, all people are required to show their two-dose vaccination certificate or QR code to visit closed public places.
The above-mentioned measure applies to everyone over 18 years of age. The Ministry of Health explained that citizens are not required to show such certificate at hospitals or drug stores.
