United States Ambassador to Peru Lisa Kenna has visited the region of Puno, where she met with Puno Region Governor German Alejo Apaza to strengthen strategic partnerships in a bid to promote Puno's exports of trout, coffee, quinoa, and textiles.

At the meeting, the U.S. diplomat showed her readiness to work alongside the Regional Government of Puno on the export and trade of strategic products from said region.

Within this framework, training and technical assistance programs will be drawn up for producers of coffee, trout, and quinoa through American Spaces —a grant program promoted by the U.S. Embassy in Peru.

According to the Regional Directorate of Production, Puno accounts for more than 4% of the national production of trout and for 82.4% of rainbow trout production.

Thus, Puno strengthens its position as the leader in the country's aquaculture industry, because of better conditions for crops, lower costs, and an increased demand.

As for coffee production, Puno is among the eight regions with the most producers of this grain, which generates economic development for households in provinces of Sandia and Carabaya.

Moreover, thanks to their collective and individual efforts, coffee producers have garnered international awards including the World's Best Coffee title.

On the other hand, organic quinoa production remains the best low-cost and profitable option for producers in Puno. This allowed farmers to improve the production performance by including new varieties such as red, white, and black quinoa.

These three products are classified as exportable, and the U.S. market poses an opportunity to expand their exports on a larger scale, but the products must meet quality and standardization requirements.
