Peru, UK to promote safe foreign trade

10:42 | Lima, Nov. 14.

Peru's National Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat) and the UK Border Agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters.

The signing took place at British Embassy headquarters in Lima with the aim of strengthening cooperation and assistance in customs control.

The MoU is expected to promote technical assistance and increase cooperation between both institutions, through an effective exchange of information and experiences.

This way, joint actions will be developed to maximize border control and facilitation in the international supply chain, keeping in mind the United Kingdom is one of Peru's principal trade partners.

According to National Deputy Superintendent of Customs Rafael Garcia and UK Border Agency General Manager for the Americas Michael Kane, this agreement will lead to common modern measures and schemes that contribute to safe foreign trade.

Under this deal, Sunat reaffirms its intention to maintain an effective cooperation with other Customs administrations so as to implement new strategies and partnerships for continuous improvement of the customs service.

The initiative also contributes to reducing logistic costs and cargo control risks in order to increase Peruvian companies' competitiveness.
