The
train running the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu route will operate on a daily basis starting today, February 13, railway operator PeruRail has announced.
According to the railway company, this service will be initially provided until Sunday, February 19.
Via Twitter, PeruRail said that its train services (for locals and tourists) will offer four frequencies a day (including two outgoing and two return journeys) during this time period.
The railroad operator reported that this measure was implemented in compliance with the authorization of railway operations on the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu-Hidroelectrica (Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchu-Hydroelectric Plant) route granted by Ferrocarril Transandino —the concessionary company of the railway— on February 6.
The measure is announced less than a week before the resumption of train operations to and from Machu Picchu, after being suspended since January 19.
During the first days, the operations took place only on Wednesday (February 8) and Sunday (February 12).
Frequencies conditioned on safety
Likewise, PeruRail stated that the operations of the train to Machu Picchu are subject to the safety instructions that are permanently given by the concessionary company.
In the statement, the railway operator said that its regular frequencies will be announced starting February 20, as long a safety conditions and required authorizations are confirmed.
