Peru: Tourism operating normally in Cusco

00:00 | Cusco (Cusco region), May. 14.

Domestic and foreign tourists could explore the Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and the Cusco's historic center on Monday despite the farming strike in Cusco region scheduled for that day.

According to Cusco's Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur), visits were held normally since the Cusco-Urubamba tourist corridor —beginning at Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport— and the Cusco-Pisaq-Sacred Valley road were free of traffic.

Road blocked

However, the Cusco-Puno-Arequipa road was blocked near Quispicanchi and Canchis provinces.

Police Colonel Manuel Mar Perez —chief of the Cusco jurisdiction— said farmers caused damage to a bus on said road.

Fortunately, no one was wounded, no clashes were reported, and dialogue became a priority.

Meanwhile, in Cusco city, trade and labor activities were running normally.
