Peru will maintain its lead role in driving growth in Latin America by posting Asian growth rates, Peru's President Ollanta Humala has said in an interview with CNN's Spanish-language channel.
President Humala ruled out a slowdown in Peru's economic growth and stated this activity has just experienced a temporary bump as a result of the international financial crisis which has already reached the region.
Speaking with Miami Herald columnist Andres Oppenheimer, the Peruvian leader noted that it is expected a growth slightly above 5 percent, while the country's Central Reserve Bank (BCR) and some economic analysts project an expansion of 6 percent.
The head of State stressed that "the future is in Latin America" as the region is carry out a huge process of industrialization, which moves the primary export mentality.
"The industrialization process has been further developed and institutionalized in Latin America, where there is a phenomenon of consolidation of booming middle classes," President Humala noted.
