Peru will host the Lima 2025 International Museum Fair on May 17 and 18. The 23rd edition of the fair will take place on the Alameda 28 de Julio in Lima's Historic Center, starting at 9 a.m. and open to the general public.
This is an initiative of the Municipality of Metropolitan Lima, in collaboration with the Lima Historic Center Museum Network and with the institutional endorsement of the International Museum Council.
The Historic Center of Lima is home to 46 museums and museum spaces, making it the geographic area with the largest number of museums in the country.
These museums gather once a year for the Fair, where they provide the public with information on the cultural, educational, and tourism activities they offer.
This year's edition will feature 33 museums located in Lima's Historic Center, along with guest museums from Lima, Callao, Arequipa, and Lambayeque.
For the first time, the embassies of Austria, Bolivia, the United States, Guatemala, Japan, India, Romania, and Russia will be present.
All of them will provide information on museums such as the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna (Austria), one of the most important museums of royal origin in Europe.
Also about the Smithsonian Institute (USA), the world's largest museum, research, and education complex; and the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant (Romania), one of the world's leading museums of art and folk traditions; to name a few.
A total of 61 museums and cultural institutions will be present at the XXIII Lima International Museum Fair 2025.
In addition, this year's XXIII Lima International Museum Fair 2025 will feature a rich cultural agenda, including presentations on topics related to the world of museums and cultural heritage, as well as a series of workshops and artistic presentations, all with free admission.
Protection of cultural heritage
The presentations include topics such as the Protection of Cultural Heritage Collections, led by specialists from the Simithsonian Institute (USA); Social Museology, led by the Tucume Site Museum (Lambayeque); The Value of Documentation in Museums, led by ICOM; and Tile Restoration, led by the Museum of the Santo Domingo Convent of Lima; among others.
These and other presentations will take place in the Taulichusco Auditorium of the Metropolitan Museum of Lima, with the participation of leading national and international experts.
The 23rd edition of the Lima 2025 International Museum Fair takes place within the framework of International Museum Day, a date established by UNESCO through the International Council of Museums (ICOM) every May 18 worldwide since 1977, with the aim of bringing museums closer to the public.
For ICOM, a museum is a permanent, non-profit organization at the service of society and its development. Open to the public, it acquires, conserves, researches, exhibits, and transmits the tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its environment for educational, study, and recreational purposes.
This date also serves to raise awareness of the protection that should have the nation's tangible and intangible cultural heritage, as well as the fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural goods.
