The creation of Peru’s Amazon National Museum will serve as a permanent meeting point and the cultural and social inclusion of the region's native communities, Peru’s Ministry of Culture announced Thursday.
Rafael Varon, Peru's Vice Minister of Heritage and Cultural Industries, stressed the importance of the museum’s research role for the Peruvian Amazon region as it will protect the Amazon’s cultural heritage as well as study it and spread it across the country.
For his part, architect Rodolfo Cartegana explained that the Amazon National Museum will be located in the city of Iquitos, in Peru’s northernmost region, at the height of Quistococha Lake, allowing visitors to be in direct contact with nature.
Varon stated that the Amazon National Museum will be aimed at displaying the cultural heritage and region’s history and contributing to the national identity and social inclusion.
