In six months' time, Peru will assume the Pro Tempore Presidency of the
Andean Community under the leadership of the Peruvian Government.
This was confirmed on Saturday during a meeting with members of the Andean Parliament held at the headquarters of Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua was awarded the Simon Bolivar Medal for Latin American Integration.
Maurtua stated that Peru's Pro Tempore Presidency of the Andean Community will help identify actions to strengthen regional development, as well as integration among member countries, giving priority to economic recovery and its social impact, with attention to environmental sustainability.
During the meeting, held at Torre Tagle Palace in Lima, emphasis was placed on issues such as illegal fishing and standardization of university degrees, which are addressed in the Andean Parliament.
The presence of Andean parliamentarians in Peru indicated the support of this institution to the administration of
President Pedro Castillo.
Also attending the event were Andean Parliament's Vice President Fernando Arce, its Secretary General Eduardo Chiliquinga, and Gustavo Pachecho Villa —an Andean parliamentarian from Peru.
