As part of activities to celebrate the 347th Anniversary of Peru’s Southern city of Puno, the Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo Legend was staged.

The event started on Thursday morning at Chimu Island, where a water ritual was held.

Afterwards, actors portraying the Inca Empire founders sailed across the Titicaca Lake for the Huaje esplanade.

The journey lasted about two hours. Finally, the imperial entourage -joined by Chimu community's raftsmen- arrived at the esplanade. The couple was welcomed with applauses from the crowd, who had also arrived at the site.

Once on solid ground, the royals took part in a ritual hosted by several Qolla dynasties. At the site, Manco Capac took a chaquitaclla (foot strap) and dug a hole in the ground to bury potato seeds.

Later, the couple was carried on a platform and taken through the town's streets. During the journey, both artists gave away potatoes, corn and tubers; a sign that Puno population does not lack food.

Finally, the main Inca Empire foundation ceremony was held at Enrique Torres Belon stadium. In this framework, Manco Capac requested Puno citizens to be prepared to tackle any adverse situation.
