Peru supported the resolution entitled Situation of Human Rights in Ukraine Stemming from the Russian Aggression, adopted by the United Nations Human Rights Council on Friday.

The document condemned in the strongest possible terms the abuses and violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in the wake of the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

Likewise, it decided to urgently set up an independent international commission of inquiry made up of three human rights experts.

The resolution was adopted at the end of the Urgent Debate of the Human Rights Council on Ukraine, which had begun the day before.

Similarly, it demanded that the necessary measures be taken to protect the civilian population and that access to humanitarian aid be guaranteed to the neediest population.

The resolution, which was introduced by Ukraine, has been supported by more than 60 countries.

In this regard, the Permanent Representative of Peru in Geneva, Ambassador Luis Chuquihuara, expressed his country's satisfaction at the significant number of Latin American countries that gave their support to the resolution.
