The participation of Peru as a new member of the WHO Executive Board occurs at a key moment for the future of the organization focused on strengthening preparedness, as well as response to health emergencies and pandemics, in the face of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Executive Board is made up of 34 members —elected for a period of three years.
Its main functions are to give effect to the decisions and policies established by the Assembly, advise it and facilitate its work, in general.
