Ministers from various sectors have tendered their resignations following President Pedro Castillo's most-recent Address to the Nation in which he announced a Congress shutdown.

Via Twitter, Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Alejandro Salas was grateful for having served the country during his time in office at said ministry and that of Culture.

"Consistent with my principles and with full respect for democracy, I have tendered my resignation from the Ministerial Cabinet," Salas wrote.

Earlier on Wednesday, the resigning minister affirmed that he was confident that legislators were going to cast a democratic vote this afternoon at the Congress plenary session, in which the impeachment motion against President Pedro Castillo was going to be debated.

For his part, Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa stated that he has decided to step down from the Executive Branch irrevocably and based on his strict adherence to his convictions, as well as democratic and constitutional values.

In this regard, he criticized the decision of President Pedro Castillo to dissolve the Congress of the Republic as it violates the Constitution.

"I strongly condemn this self-coup and call on the international community to assist in the democratic re-establishment of democracy in Peru. Castillo took this decision without my knowledge or support," Landa remarked.

"Respectful of democratic institutions and following the announcement of the Congress dissolution and the formation of a national emergency government, I irrevocably resign from my position as Minister of Justice and Human Rights," said Felix Chero, who held said ministerial portfolio.

On the other hand, Economy Minister Kurt Burneo reported that he has submitted his irrevocable resignation in line with his democratic principles and claiming that the rule of law has been violated.

Richard Tineo, Minister of Transportation and Communications, also announced that he is resigning from office irrevocably, given the announcement of the Congress shutdown and the formation of a national emergency government by the Head of State.

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Wilbert Rozas said that he did not agree with the self-coup, wherever it comes from, as he tendered his resignation.

Update at 1:50 p.m. (local time): During a plenary session, Congress on Wednesday afternoon approved an impeachment against Pedro Castillo from his position as President of the Republic due to moral incapacity in the exercise of duties. Thus, he has been constitutionally removed from office.
