Peru and Spain have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on armament and defense material
The agreement was inked by Peru's Defense Minister Jose Huerta and Spain's Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Josep Borrell at Lima's Government Palace on Monday.
According to the document, mutual cooperation addresses the information exchange on defense technology development, as well as industrial cooperation on the acquisition and export of defense material through governmental support.
Furthermore, it explores information exchange on foreseeable requirements for defense material, as well as development and specific improvement projects scheduled or implemented by either country.
The MoU will last 10 years and be automatically extended for consecutive periods, unless one of the parties terminates it.
It should be noted the Defense Ministries from both countries had already signed a cooperation agreement in 2006.
Said document addressed cooperation on the control of weapons, defense plans, and budgetary management, as well as experience exchange on peacekeeping, search, and rescue operations, among others.
