The governments of Peru and South Korea on Monday opened the Lima office for the Peru-Korea Technology Exchange Center (PKTEC), an initiative that will allow South Korean firms to transfer technology to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in Peru.
The office, located within the premises of the Peruvian Production Ministry (PRODUCE) in Lima's San Isidro district, will welcome Peruvian SMEs interested in the program.
The partnership is part of PRODUCE's response to the major technology and productivity gap in
Peruvian companies.
In this sense, PKTEC is expected to call more than 180 SMEs starting in March for a selection process to identify their issues and opportunities.
Once selected, the companies will gain access to technological support to be provided by their South Korean counterparts.
It is worth noting South Korea has become a global strategic partner in technology thanks to a series of public policies concerning innovation and technology transfer, with similar initiatives in Iran (2016) and Viet Nam (2017).
