The Government of South Korea has donated food, personal protective equipment (PPE) and technological equipment to residents of Lima's eastern Ate district for them to continue receiving virtual classes during the COVID-19 emergency in Peru.

Via the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and NGO Korea Food For the Hungry International (KFHI), the foreign government delivered 450 baskets of basic food, sanitary protection materials and computer equipment to more than 1,000 Peruvian families and Venezuelan women based in the Amauta B Community of said district.

KOICA Peru director Jung Wook Lee said that "we are facing an unprecedented global health crisis."

"It is time for us to remember the meaning of solidarity and global cooperation, because the pandemic cannot be controlled and managed by the effort of a single country," he added.

For his part, the representative of the board of directors of Amauta community, Edwin Chagua, thanked the South Korean Government for the support provided to the Peruvian and Venezuelan residents. In addition, he stressed the importance of not letting down the guard in the face of the pandemic.

The South Korean Government has additionally delivered molecular tests, other medical supplies and technical assistance through virtual seminars geared towards health personnel.

Likewise, humanitarian aid assets were donated to the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) and a thermal camera was sent to the Ministry of Defense (Mindef), in order to support the Peruvian Government in its efforts against COVID-19.
