Peru rules out damage to Candelabra geoglyph in Paracas

Peru's Culture Ministry ruled out that the Paracas Candelabra —a prehistoric geoglyph found in the Paracas Peninsula in Pisco province— has been affected after unusual rains hit the area, causing an outcrop of salt.

"The Candelabra cannot be fully appreciated because of the whitish color of the salt. However, the figure has not been affected, and its color will return to normal as the days go by," reads a statement.

According to the government department, the situation affects the entire Paracas Peninsula because of unusual rains in the area.

Ica's Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) staff —with the support of the Paracas Tourism Police Division and the National Service of Natural Protected Areas (Sernanp)— monitors the place on a permanent basis in order to ensure conservation and protection of this cultural landscape.

The Culture Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring comprehensive protection and conservation of Peru's historical tangible and intangible heritage, as it constitutes the Inca country's development foundation.
