Peruvian regional exports totaled US$20.7 billion between January and August 2018, up 18.6% and more than twice as high as Lima and Callao’s shipments (+9%), Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) informed.
In the first eight months of the year, shipments reached 126 markets.
China, the United States, and
India were the main destinations.
According to the institution, 15 regions of the Inca country (except Lima and Callao) experienced positive growth in the analyzed period.
Meanwhile, 8 regions exceeded US$1 billion in exports: Arequipa, Ancash, Ica, La Libertad, Piura, Apurimac, Cusco, and Moquegua.
North
In August 2018, shipments from northern regions rose 14%, thus posting 16 months of continuous growth.
Thus, exports expanded US$8.1 billion in January-August this year, up by 23%.
This outcome was underpinned by higher sales of
giant squid (+103.5%), zinc (+31.4%), and fish flour (+31.4).
Center
During the analyzed period, exports from central regions amounted to US$3.3 billion, a 10.2% expansion compared to 2017.
Copper and silver shipments stood out in this case.
South
On the other hand, exports from the south were valued at more than US$9 billion thru August 2018, thus expanding 18.3%.
This result was driven by higher sales of alpaca fine hair (+50.3%), molybdenum (+59%), and copper cathodes (+50.8%).
Non-traditional
agro-exports rose 12% due to chestnut shipments (+45%), setting a record.
