Peru: Public Ministry strengthens anti-corruption cooperation with European Union

Peruvian Attorney General Zoraida Avalos on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Inter-Agency Cooperation with the European Union (EU) -represented by EU Ambassador to Peru Diego Mellado- in order to strengthen the fight against corruption.

The agreement formalized their common desire for cooperation in the fight against: corruption, organized crime, environmental offenses, and gender violence, with the purpose of complying with the competences and roles of each institution. 

On the occasion, they were joined by Spanish Ambassador to Peru Ernesto de Zulueta Habsburgo-Lorena, Romanian Ambassador Gabriel Gafita and Chargé d’Affaires Andrei Stefan, as well as Italian Ambassador Giancarlo Maria Curcio

Likewise, Public Ministry officials included International Judicial Cooperation and Extraditions Unit (UCJIE) Head Celia Goicochea, and Prosecutor's Offices Specialized in Corruption Offenses Committed by Public Officials National Coordinator Omar Tello, among others. 

In this sense, the Prosecutor's Office is committed to coordinating and facilitating the presence of its personnel in academic, training, and experience exchange activities.

It will also make easier the use of rooms and facilities, and provide them with the necessary means for organizing lectures, courses, and seminars. 

On its part, the European Union will promote the specialization of the contributors in regional training events and experience exchange seminars. 

Furthermore, it will provide technical assistance to the Public Ministry.
