Peru President: Without education, any achievement will be temporary

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday affirmed that education is the basis for every country's development; without it, any achievement will be merely temporary.

During the closing of the National Education Meeting, at which he announced the relaunch of the National Educational Project Towards 2036, the Head of State said his administration is making the effort to empower the education sector.

"We are convinced that education is the basis for development; without education any achievement will be merely temporary. If we want sustainable development, it has to be based on education; this is the best tool to fight poverty," he expressed.

Regarding the National Educational Project Towards 2036, the top official stressed that it is an important initiative for the development of the South American country and should become the guide, as well as the benchmark for the future.

"If we want to reduce poverty, there is no better tool than high-quality education. If we want children to access a quality education, regardless of their parents' economic capacity, a vicious circle will be broken," he said.

The President noted the current challenge of the education sector does not only focus on the academic point of view —but on a comprehensive one— because it is not only about shaping good students, but also good citizens.

"Let's continue working because I am convinced that bringing Peruvians together, towards the great goals that we set for ourselves, will enable us to lay the foundations for this development with equality and inclusion. We will make every effort, even though the challenge is huge," he added.

Likewise, the statesman valued the efforts undertaken by the educational community to elaborate the National Educational Project Towards 2036.
