Peru President urges debate on generic medicines bill

14:23 | Lima, Jun. 20.

President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday urged Congress to urgently debate the bill —submitted by the Executive Branch— aimed at guaranteeing the availability of generic medications in pharmacies nationwide.

"I ask Parliament to give it (the bill) the corresponding process through the Permanent Commission, so it can be passed and enacted soon, which will benefit Peruvians' economy and health," the Head of State expressed.

In this sense, he indicated the bill ensures a minimum stock of generic medications at all pharmacies in order to protect the citizens' health

Likewise, the top official informed the proposal —sent to Congress Chairman Daniel Salaverry— is well supported.

President Vizcarra was joined by Ministers Zulema Tomas (Health) and Carlos Oliva (Economy and Finance) on the occasion.

The event took place at Lima-based Government Palace.
