Peru President: The people have said yes to referendum

Peru President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that the population has shown support for a referendum aimed at achieving reforms in the political and justice systems.

"(…) The people have voluntarily voiced their opinion, they have said the referendum will indeed happen," the Head of State pointed out.

The top official went on to add the Executive Branch holds a similar opinion.

Likewise, Vizcarra noted that the fight against corruption is a commitment to be assumed by all Peruvians. He indicated corruptness is one of the worst evils due to its negative effects on development

According to the President, former authorities had shown indifference and tolerance to the said scourge. 

However, there is a proper reaction this time, and the opportunity to fight corruptionwithin the justice system— has arisen. 

In this sense, the Head of State affirmed that projects submitted by the Executive Branch are open to suggestions and can be modified. Nevertheless, he stressed, his administration will not take a step back in the fight against corruption
