The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti met with representatives of the Association of Municipalities of Peru (AMPE) at the Government Palace on Friday.

AMPE Chairman Alvaro Paz de la Barra stressed that the meeting served to guarantee the continuity of investments made by local governments.

According to him, talks were held so that mayors can be taken into consideration in the system for planning, distribution, and application of the vaccine against COVID-19 once it is available in the country.

Likewise, he said that the participation of burgomasters will become a reality after the group of experts completes the plan for the administration of the vaccine against the new coronavirus.

Paz de la Barra pointed out that the meeting also served to address the creation of a Reactiva Municipal —a program similar to Reactiva Peru, which was promoted by the past administration to help the country's businesspeople meet their financial obligations during the health emergency.

The AMPE members met for two hours with the Head of State, who is leading a round of talks with political forces and authorities.

The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
