The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday participated in a ceremony marking the reception of historical relics of Colonel Francisco Bolognesi, which were recently returned by Chile.

They include the epaulettes and gangways of the corvette "Union" —objects that survived the War of the Pacific— which were repatriated on May 27 after the concerted efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, and Chilean authorities.

The ceremony took place at the main courtyard of the Torre Tagle Palace, which serves as the main headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru.

The event featured Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa, Culture Minister Alejandro Salas, and Defense Minister Jose Luis Gavidia, as well as representatives of the Joint Command and senior members of the Armed Forces.

The military insignia of the greatest hero of the Peruvian Army and the naval relics of the corvette Union —whose name was given to the Peruvian Navy training ship— are of major importance for the country's historical memory.

According to the government palace press office, the return of these relics by the Chilean government constitutes an expression of friendship and trust on the bilateral agenda, which is fully appreciated by the Peruvian State.
