Peru President: "Parties offer alternatives, but in the end the people will decide"

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday affirmed that political parties offer candidate alternatives for the January 2020 parliamentary elections, but —in the end— the people will be the ones to decide at the polls.

In this sense, the Head of State called on citizens to make a serious reflection on the candidates, noting there are Peruvians competent and committed to the country, but who are usually not elected for such posts.

"Let us choose well, the political parties will give us a menu of alternatives, but —in the end— the people will decide (…)," the top official said.

"Let us make the effort, so that the Congress we choose on January 26 guarantees the participation of Congress members committed to Peru, to the fight against corruption, and to major reforms," he added.

With this, he stressed, it will be possible to have solid institutions, infrastructure, and integral development.

Remarks were made after participating in the inauguration of the health center in Canchaque District belonging to Huancabamba Province, northern Peru.

As is known, President Vizcarra constitutionally dissolved Congress on September 30 and called for new elections to be held on January 26, 2020.
