Peru President opens defense technology exhibition

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Thursday inaugurated the 7th International Defense Technology Exhibition & Prevention of Natural Disasters (SITDEF) event, taking place in Lima on May 16-19 to showcase the latest technology in the defense industry and regional military means.

In this sense, the Head of State noted the Armed Forces work not only to guarantee the sovereignty, independence, and integrity of the country, but also participate actively in the national development, as defending Peru includes fighting against poverty and inequality

Likewise, he informed the construction of the Army's aeronautical center in southern Arequipa region has been completed, and soon its implementation will be finished, adding that will be the largest helicopter maintenance center in Latin America.

"We already rely on the multi-purpose BAP Pisco ship, the biggest one in the country, and BAP Paita, the second multi-purpose ship, is under construction," the top official expressed. 

Furthermore, the statesman announced the acquisition of two cutting-edge radars that will enable strengthening airspace control and the fight against drug-trafficking in the Valley of Apurimac, Ene, and Mantaro rivers (Vraem)

During his speech, President Vizcarra stated the new Lima-based National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) will be inaugurated this July, so the Inca nation can rely on the most adequate infrastructure for timely disaster management.
