Peru: President meets with Saudi Arabia's FA Min

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo held a meeting with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, to strengthen bilateral ties, as well as promote trade and investment opportunities in Peru.

This visit took place at the Government Palace in Lima.

Via its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that this is the first visit of a Saudi minister to Peru at a bilateral level.

Likewise, it specified that this event will contribute to strengthening coordination for hosting the First Political Consultation Mechanism during the second half of 2022.

Bilateral relations

Diplomatic relations between both countries were established on March 19, 1986.

The Embassy of Peru in Saudi Arabia started operations on June 1, 2012, and the Saudi Embassy in our country did the same in Lima on June 27, 2013.

As of November 2021, bilateral trade amounted to US$164.78 million. Saudi Arabia imports more than 85% of its food, and Peru is a renowned agricultural export power.

A general cooperation agreement, an air services agreement, and another in the area of disaster risk management are under negotiation.
